The Afternoon Gentlemen – Pissedography

This is a fucking fantastic CD, all of the Afternoon Gentlemen’s releases from 7″ and comps all on 1 CD. And I’d have to say it’s fucking brutal! it’s hard to describe, well it’s fucking grindcore that’s for sure, some parts sound like death metal some thrashy punky style parts. If you can try and picture Spazz being fucked in the ass by Nasum with screeching dual vocals, thrash beats coupled with blast beats and awesome power violence/crusty breakdowns. Like I said hard to describe these guys sound, nevertheless this CD fucking rules! I love it and any fans of the genre will I can pretty much guarantee it.

The Damned @ The Metro Sydney

So there I was doing my daily skim through Facebook to see if anyone has posted anything interesting, when a dear old friend who I haven’t see for more than 10 years offers me a spot on the guest list to see The Damned! being a diehard fan of The Damned since I was still in High School how could I possibly refuse such an offer. The show was on a Saturday night, I am a socially retarded individual so to prepare for the show I drank 3 1/4 of a bottle of Mishka before I even left the house. I rocked up to the Metro in Sydney slightly tanked and a little bit sizzled from the fucken big joint I decided to blow before I went in, needless to say it made for an ultra funky atmosphere.

I grabbed a Coopers which is the cheapest beer they had at $7.50 (WTF!?!?!?!) and made my way into the theater to check out the opening act, I’m fucked if I can remember the name of this band but I know it was a ridiculously cliche name like Kill Crazy Junkies or something like that. I found these guys to be a bit boring and I couldn’t understand how such a band managed to score the support slot for legends like the Damned, their sound was like a really watered down version of The International Noise Conspiracy without the attitude or intensity. I wouldn’t recommend going to see this band as you may very well walk away disappointed, although their songs may appeal to some people, I personally couldn’t find anything about this band to be appealing.

Ah well nevertheless I wasn’t there to see the support act, The Damned is who I was eagerly anticipating. After the opening band finished their set The Metro was pretty well packed to it’s capacity, I myself was quite thoroughly pissed at this stage and all lubed up for a fucking killer show. When the Damned took the stage they were greeted by loud bellowing cheers from the audience, The Captain was in his trademark red beret and white sunnies and Dave Vanian was in all his wonderful gothic splendor. I’m fucked if I know who the other guys in the band were, would of loved to of seen them with Rat Scabies on the drums but without Rat Scabies the Damned still put on a fucking amazing show.

They played all their classics, highlights of course were Video nasty, I Just Can’t Be Happy Today, New Rose and also seeing these two very well equipped babes come out for a dance during one of the songs was absolutely brilliant. All in all The Damned was just what I expected, sheer punk rock brilliance! even after 35 years these guys have still got the spark and know how to rock the fucking casbah. They closed the show with one of their biggest songs Smash It Up, and it was indeed a magical moment……..the crowd was mostly made up of old school boot boys but any younger people out there who think they know what real punk rock is about! you haven’t seen shit until you’ve seen The Damned!

New ‘Buried At Birth’ album Force / Quit

This album is absolutely fucking AWESOME!!!!!! it fucking shreds from start to finish, there is some definite Spazz influence coming out in this album. Although still packed with the same shredding guitars and explosive vocals, no song off this album I would class as a favorite, they are all equally as fucking brilliant as the other. I am importing some hard copies of this album on CD, although the band has been nice enough to let you download the whole album for $3 from Bandcamp!!!!!

Good Australia street punk from THE SCAM!!!

I was recently sent a CD by a band from the Gold Coast of Australia called The Scam, in the past Australia has produced some great punk bands like old greats Top Novil, No Idea, Vicious to name a few. But it’s been a long while since a new street punk band emerged, well a decent band anyway! The Scam is who I am talking about. These guys pump out full on snotty street punk, some of their stuff has a UK punk feel, but in some parts you can tell these guys like a bit of old school American punk as they have a great sound that touches on all kinds of classic punk styles.

I was lucky enough to score a copy of The Scam’s first CD called “Since When Is hardcore rated G” and I’ll have to say it’s a great CD, full on up tempo, old school punk with the right attitude. The recording quality is sub par but that makes it even more worth while, as it’s got real TRUE punk rock grit and the classic “FUCK YOU” punk attitude to match which is something I have always been a massive fan of. The Scam are from what I hear working on their first real full length album, not sure of a release date but neverthelss I’m really looking forward to hearing it.

The Scam have been getting some good publicity lately, mainly cause they have been picked to support the Casualties on their Australia tour which is gonna GO OFF!!!! plus from what I heard The Scam also did some shows recently with skinhead legends The Business! all I can say in summing up check these guys live, I haven’t seen them live but I’m looking forward to in future. So make sure if you have tickets to the Casualties! rock up early and make sure you catch The Scam live!
